***
Tasveer teri dil mein jis din se utari hai,
phir tuje sang leke naye naye rang leke sapno ki mehfil mein.
Maathe ki bindiya tu hai sanam, nayno ke kajra piya tera gham,
nain kiye niche niche, rahun tere pichhe pichhe, chalu kisi manzil mein.
Tumse nazar jab gai hai mil, jahan hai kadam tere wonhi mera dil,
jukon jahan palke teri, khule jahan zulfon teri rahun usi manzil mein.
Tufan uthayegi duinya magar, rook na sakega dil ka safar,
younhi nazar milti hogi younhi shama jalti hogi teri meri manzil mein.
***

Merci JV, it’s a gift (c’est un cadeau).
Some (quelques) questions (same in french).
What does it mean tasweer, i suppose picture/image/souvenir ?
Utar ? I dont know but in arabic language the same word means a typical music instrument ?
Mehfil ? Ceremony with festivities ?. In french festivité ou cérémonie.
Manzil is step or grade or position ?. In french position.
Nazar is a look or something like that, in french ‘regard’.
Sanam ?
Zulfon ? It is sending good news to somebody ? In french ‘Annoncer la bonne nouvelle’
It’s enough for you for today.
Bahut bahut choukria. Merci beaucoup beaucoup ou merci infiniment.

j’ai pris plaisir à le faire.
Tasveer-image
Tasveer ‘utarna’ – here ‘imprinting of an image in mind’
Mehfil-feast
Manzil-destination
Nazar-look,glance
Sanam-lover
Zulfon-hair, curl of hair
I know there are many more words in the song which will still confuse you.

Salilda is one of my favourite composers and of course, Lataji and Rafi sahab are my favourite singers. I listened to this song first four years ago and I didn’t like it. The tune’s of course excellent, but the kind of notes Salilda made Lataji hit, were very jarring. Rafi sahab of course sang it flawlessly; he’s unmatchable at the higher notes. Unfortunately, Lataji sounds like she’s trying desperately to hit those notes and is quite screechy. Listen to – ‘…nainon ka kajra..piya tera…’ at ‘kajra’. IMHO, she should’ve sung at a note or two lower, while starting itself.

Dude, it was great to watch this song. I had listened to it hundreds of times before – literally. Never watched the movie because it was not available. So many so many thanks to you for making it possible. 🙂
Dev Anand is the best of heroes; Mala Sinha ka to jawab nahin. Salil da is one of those who did relatively little but that little is sooo valuable.
Hats off to all those artists and to you too.

Is this the song for which Rafi had an argument with both Salilda and Lata?
Anyways I love the song…. the lines Naino ka kajara as said above may sound like screeching but for me it is the best part of this song……. Rafi as usual melts hearts…and Lata didi ka kya kehna…….
