Album : Insight (1994)
Track : Mein Roya Pardes Mein (Dohe)
Lyrics : Nida Fazli
Music : Jagjit Singh
Singer : Jagjit Singh
I hadn’t paid much attention this piece of work of Jagjit Singh, until I recalled one of the doha (last one) to cite in the comment on the post about religion at Pr3na’s blog. Then I listened them carefully, and I found each of them are very meaningful. However, not unlike the shers of a ghazal, these dohas are also not associated with each other and can be read individually.

Main roya pardes mein, bheegaa maan kaa pyaar
aankhon bhar aakaash hai, baahon bhar sansaar
Leke tan ke naap ko, ghoomay basti gaanv
har chaadar ke gher se, baahar nikalay paanv
Sab ki poojaa ek si, alag alag hai reet
masjid jaaye maulavi, koyal gaaye geet
Pooja ghar mein murati Meera ke sang Shyam,
jiski jitni chaakari utne uske daam
Nadiyaa seenchay khet ko, tota kutaray aam
sooraj thekedaar saa, sab ko baantay kaam
Saaton din bhagawaan ke, kyaa mangal kyaa peer
jis din soye der tak, bhookhaa rahay fakir
Achhi sangat baithkar, sangi badalay roop
jaisay milkar aam se meethii ho gayi dhoop
Sapnaa jharnaa neend kaa, jaagii aankhen pyaas
paanaa, khonaa, khojanaa saanson kaa itihaas
Chaahay Geetaa baanchiye, yaa padhiye Quraan
mera tera pyaar hi har pustak kaa gyaan

Beautiful! Just beautiful!!
Somehow, the last doha recalls to my mind the following ‘sher’
Ghar se door hai masjid mana, chalo yu.n kar lei.n
Kisi rote hue bacche ko hansaya jaaye!!
JV said:
Touching sher, coincidently it is also from Nida Fazali.

Most of these are NOT written by Nida Fazli. These are dohe by kabir and can be found in any good collection of dohe
The rest of this album is by Nida Fazli though….

thnx boss was searching fr it…u sure its by nida fazli…i thought it was rahim’s dohe…
also couple of amendments…
it should be:
suraj baatein ‘ghaam’ instead of ‘kaam’…ghaam means dhoop (used eastern UP side)
and
kya mangal kya ‘veer’ instead of ‘peer’…veervar is thursday (used punjab side)

Can you please confirm that the line “Saaton din bhagawaan ke, kyaa mangal kyaa peer” Is it “peer” or “Eid”. I believe its Eid. It makes sense with “Eid” not “peer”

Can someone kindly provide me with an English translation of this ghazal. I am of Indian origin and from the West Indies. I have only limited knowledge/understanding of Hindi and Urdu but I passionately love the culture and music of the Indian sub-continent. Any assistance with this will be deeply appreciated.

Please add these two add-ons by Nida Fazlisaab 🙏
