Dekha Ek Khwaab To Silsile Hue by Lata and Kishore

Posted by JV on July 7, 2007

Movie : Silsila (1981)
Lyrics : Javed Akhtar
Artiste : Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar

Its eternal truth that to achieve goal one must dream, one needs have to have a dream. Javedsaab has woven the fact poetically.

***
Dekha Ek Khwaab To Yeh Silsile Hue
Door Tak Nigahon Mein Hain Gul Khile Hue
Yeh Gila Hai Aapki Nigahon Se
Phool Bhi Ho Darmiyaan To Faasle Hue
Dekha Ek Khwaab…

Meri Saanson Mein Basi Khushboo Teri
Yeh Tere Pyaar Ki Hai Jadugari
Teri Aawaz Hai Havaaon Mein
Pyar Ka Rang Hai Phizaaon Mein
Dhadkanon Mein Tere Geet Hain Mile Hue
Kya Kahun Ke Sharm Se Hain Lub Sile Hue
Dekha Ek Khwaab…

Mera Dil Hai Teri Panaahon Mein
Aa Chhupa Loon Tujhe Maein Baahon Mein
Teri Tasveer Hai Nigaahon Mein
Door Tak Roshni Hai Raahon Mein
Kal Agar Na Roshni Ke Kaafile Hue
Pyar Ke Hazaar Deep Hain Jale Hue
Dekha Ek Khwaab…
***

Kyun zindgi shikava gila(Kar salaam) from A life in metro

Posted by JV on July 3, 2007

Movie : Life in a metro (2007)
Song : Kyun jindgi shikava gila (Kar salaam) Lyrics :
Music : Pritam Chakraborty

This song also displays the same spirit of the classic Zindgi pyar ka geet hai , with just a difference of fast beats and playful tone.

***
Kyun zindagi se ho shikava gila ,
yeh hasati hai roti hai, jo bhi hai jaisi hai
jo bhi yeh deti hai woh hai tera.
kar salaam….

Nakhre utha isake nakhre utha,
haan dhoop bhi hai yeh, chhaanv bhi hai yeh
jo bhi yeh deti hai, tu maan ja
kar salaam…..

bik jaana, loot jaana, bass jaana hai jindagi maan le
karle yakin, jo kal gaya woh phir se aata nahin
gujra huva jo waqt hai woh dastak lagaata nahin
jo aaj hai bass wahi hai tera

Kya teri hasti hai, mitti ki basti hai
pal mein hi ho jaati hai yeh fanaa
kar salaam
****

****

In dino dil mera from Life in a metro

Posted by JV on June 7, 2007

Movie : Life in a metro (2007)
Song : In dino dil mera
Lyrics :
Music : Pritam Chakraborty

It is amusing to see more often then not, people are to be told, has to be motivated to love. We find very easy to express negative emotions then positive one. Sometime people do not have grudges against others or society, but find hard to love oneself.

Probably if you are loving, you are more open and more vulnerable. Friends and relatives may say that people takes benefits of your benevolence. Therefore in fear of being vulnerable and not to allow anyone to take benefit people become hard, unuseful and stop living.

I like the emotions of this song very much.

***
In dino, dil mera, mujhse hai keh raha , tu khaab saja, tu ji le jara,
hai tujhe bhi izaazat, karle tu bhi muhabbat.

Berang si hai badi zindagi kuchh rang to bharoon,
main apani tanahaayi ke waaste ab kuchh toh karoon.

Jab mile thodi fursat, khudse karle muhabbat
hai tujhe bhi izaazat, karle tu bhi muhabbat

Usako chhupaakar main sabse kabhi le chaloon kahin door…
aankhon ke pyaalon kse pita rahoon usake chehre ka noor.

Iss jamaane se chhupakar , puri karloon main hasrat
hai tujhe bhi izaazat, karle tu bhi muhabbat.

***

Salaam-E-Ishq by Nikhil Advani : Review

Posted by JV on January 30, 2007

I watched Salaam-E-Ishq on 26th January as I had nothing else to do. I was late, reached just five minutes before the show and therefore got front seat so I was grossly engrossed in the movie.

The movie shows six couples involved in the most sentimental emotion, love. This time I may not narrate the story because each couple has different story to tale. One is forgotten by his love, another is afraid to commit in love, next is bored with routine and looking for excitement, one is waiting for his dream love, one is confused with love and last one is unable to make love.

Yes, again one can point out similar Hollywood movie, Love Actually, there are many striking similarities, but better to say nothing and watch the Original Indian Movie.

The movie is not surprisingly half an hour longer than usual three hours, to cover all the stories. In the beginning it is difficult to understand each story, but by the end of first hour you probably recognise all the characters. In second hours the story progress but un-equally, one story is given more weight and another is mostly much left behind.

You can find Anil Kapoor without mustache and wonder if the movie might go flop. Juhi is good. Priyanka Chopra acts loudly as an item girl of bollywood, and Salman Khan is as usual in his style. Govinda does no wonder and suitable in taxi-wala role with Shannon Esra who looks adorable and provides good laugh with her efforts to learn Hindi. Akshya Khanna acts well and Ayesha Takia is okay. John Abrahm really acted and I enjoyed his acting, I think he should change his appearance as he has been too long with same hairstyle. And Vidya Balan is getting bolder, but not necessarily beautiful at same time. Sohil Khan tries to make you laugh with Isha Kopikar who has nothing to do in the movie.

The movie gives mix-dish to suit everyone’s choice of love. There are many comic and few good touching scenes. But sometime you left with wanting more.

Music numbers are enjoyable. Title song is good to hum. Adnani Sami sings Dil Kya Kare in his style. Saiyaan Re is item number and easily forgotten. Mera Dil is okay. Babuji Dhire Chalna is old meoldy performed on slow notes. Ye Rabba is sufi song ,by Kailash Kher ,matches the mood of the movie during the climax. Tenu Leke is playful song tailored for Salmaan.

The movie is enjoyable and 210 minutes were easily passed , but nothing extra ordinary.

Guru by Mani Ratnam : Review

Posted by JV on January 14, 2007

Mani Ratnam and the disclaimer of the movie, both deny to have any resemblances with any person or incidents but once you see the movie you dont believe them.

Apparently the movie is based on the first business tycoon of India, Dhirubhai Ambani, once the movie begins you can’s stop comparing.

***spoiler ahead***
At the dawn of the independence of India young Gurukant Desai (Abhishek Bhachhan) ,of a small town of Gujarat, wants to leave India for Turkey for which his head-master father reluctantly agrees. In Turkey Guru has job of delivery boy at Burma Shell company. Guru can smell money anywhere, and in seven years he is promoted at Sales Supervisor, but he turns down the offer and decides to return his hometown and to start his own business.

While returning he meets Sujata (Aishwarya Rai) in train , where she is betrayed by a coward man who had turned up as they had decided to run away from their home because of their affair.

When Guru mentioned his idea of own business, his father rejects the idea as he had failed in his business and wants Guru to continue the service. However Guru refuses to give up his plan but main obstacles is shortfall of money for his business. He is desperate to raise some money and for that he agrees to marry his frinend’s sister as her father is giving good dowry for he is ashamed of his daughter, who turns out to be Sujata.

Eventually, Guru along with his wife and brother-in-law leave for Mumbai. Where he learns that to trade in cloth business he is required to have a letter of recommendation from ,Farzan Contractor(?) the president of the association. Guru after bitter experiences finds that the president of the association have monopoly over whom to allow to do business and whom to not. In his anger he meets with Manikdas Gupta(Mithun Chakarborthy), who is editor/owner of a newspaper and strong believer of honesty and integrity, prints the story of Guru and soon Guru is in business and he becomes mentor of Guru.

Guru , who don’t like to listen no, progress at rapid speed by hook or crook, which Contractors find threatening to their monopoly , and try to buy him out. Furious at that, Guru starts printing all kind of allegation against Contractor in the newspaper of Manikant , in the long absence of Manikant.

When Manikant returns and finds the improper means used by Guru against his rivals, he abandons him and asks to a young journalists Shyam Saxena (R. Madhvan) if he can expose Guru. Shyam starts his war against Guru by finding information of his illegal business activities, and sometime by creating false stories to print.

Meanwhile, Guru has made Shakti Corporation as one of the leading company with the supports of thousands of share holders and distributing the profits lavishly between them. One of the director of Shakti Corporation reveals , while giving interview to Shyam, that the company has imported factory machinery without permission and without paying custom and excise etc.

As soon as the news is public, the government appoint commission against Guru for all the offences from smuggling illegal machinery to raising his compny’s share using improper means.

He roars before the commission in the public hearing that he has not done anything illegal. What he wanted to do a business where he is good at and to do business why had to either beg or to kick to open the door of business and he did both when necessary begged or kicked. Eventually Guru is declared guilty only on two counts out of twenty six and ordered for some hefty penalty.

***

First thing first, the plot is very exciting, a story of rags to riches based on real time industrialist. Now see similarities between the character of the reel and real. Headmaster father, service as petrol delivery boy, at Burma Shell Company, shrewed business sense, business in clothes, eventually becomes the polyester prince, pioneer in taking support from share holders for capital, large share holder base , huge annual share holder meetings, attack of paralysis and have a good look at the logo of Shakti Corporation.

Mani Ratnam has taken pain with shooting periodical scenes and the movie is gripping. Abhishek is able carry the movie on his shoulder and Aishwarya Rai was as ever, stunning and stunned and has done decent role as supporting wife

Moral of the movie , as some says, is to manipulate everything for one’s own success. Ofcourse, we can argue out either way but looking to the other movies I am not as much concerned with what moral the movie conveys. But the movie could be more intensified by portraying struggles and ups and downs of the character.

Music number is not at par with the reputation of Raheman, only number I can hum is Barso re megha .. but overall the songs do not add much spice in the story rather distract the story.

Well, I enjoyed the movie but it , DEFINITELY , could have been better. It is one-time-see and you should see the movie to form your opinions.

Listen - Kabhi Kabhi Mere Dil Mein - by Amitabh Bachchan

Posted by JV on December 22, 2006

I was trying to get audio/mp3 of this the famous poem from Kabhie Kabhie. Listen it.

You can find the lyrics at my older post

Interesting facts about the poem.(from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kabhie_Kabhie)

* The concept came to Yash Chopra while he was reading a poem by his longtime friend (and also the film’s lyricist) Sahir Ludhianvi . Initially, the story just centered on Amit, Pooja, Vijay and Anjali, but Pamela Chopra read an article in a magazine about a woman meeting her adopted child. Yash Chopra thought it good enough to make it a sub-plot in the film.

* There are two versions of the poem “Kabhi Kabhie” - one is the romantic poem Amit sings to Pooja when they are in love, and the other version, rewritten by a shattered Amit since the marriage of Pooja to Vijay, is a bitter, self-hating ode of misery and loss. Sahir Ludhianvi wrote this version of “Kabhi Kabhie” first; the more romantic version was written for the film.

* The film was supposed to open with Amit standing under a tree and watching Pooja get married. Traditionally in a Hindi “shaadi” (wedding) ceremony, there were to be seven “pheras” (circuits) around the altar; therefore there would be seven different love scenes between Amit and Pooja intercut with each phera. This was deemed too artistic a beginning for the film, so a few days were spent re-shooting the simple scenes of Amit reciting poetry and meeting Pooja.

Mile Na Phool To by Mohd. Rafi

Posted by JV on August 4, 2006

Movie : Anokhi Raat (196 8)
Director : Asit Sen
Lyrics : Kaifi Azmi
Music : Roshan
Singer : Mohd. Rafi

I have liked this ghazal for its simplicity. This ghazal is truly ghazal in substance.

***
Mile na phool to kaanto se dosti kar li,
isi tarah se basar humne zindgi kar li.

Ab aage jo bhi anjaam dekha jayega,
khuda taraash liya aur bandgi kar li.

Nazar mili bhi na thi aur unko dekh liya,
zubaan khuli bhi na thi aur baat bhi kar li.

Woh jinke pyar hai chandi se ishq sone se,
wohi hi kahenge kabhi humne khud-khushi kar li.
***

Zindgi Pyar Ka Geet Hai by Lata Mangeshkar

Posted by JV on July 16, 2006

Track : Zindgi Pyar Ka Geet Hai
Movie : Soutan
Singer : Lata Mangeshkar

This is one of my favorite ghazals. It soothes me when I am desperate about life, frustrated from life.

***
zindgi gham saagar bhi hai, haske us paar jana padega.

Jis ka ho jitna aanchal yahan par , usko saugat utni milegi,
phool jivan mein gar na khile to, kaanto so bhi nibhana padega.

Hai agar dur manzil to kya, rasta bhi hai mushkil to kya,
raat taaron bhari na mile to dil ka dipak jalana padega.

Zindgi ek paheli bhi hai, sukh dukh ki saheli bhi hai,
zindgi ek vachan bhi to hai jise sabko nibhana padega.
***

Corporate by Madhur Bhandarkar : A review

Posted by JV on July 9, 2006

Honestly, I have not seen any of the previous movies directed by Madhur Bhandarkar. But the trailer of the movie tempted me to visit the theater, not Bipasha Basu. I was expecting to see warfare between giant industrialists for business. The movie had what I exacted , but it had more, a typical Madhur Bhandarkar style, ruthless business tactics in which even human ,let alone human relation , has no value. It was good change from the typical Bollywood movie.Nishi (Bipasha Basu) is a successful executive in Sahegal Food Industries, headed by Vinay Sahegal. Decision of the Maharashtra Government to give a Public Sector Unit of Bottling Plant to the private industry started race among the industrialists. Sahegal and Marwa (Raj Babbar) are bitter rival and attempt everythings to control the bottling plant. Marwa wins the contract manipulating the State Finance Minister Gulabrao, which makes Sahegal mad. Meanwhile brother-in-law of Sahegal, Ritesh (K.K. Menon) , returns from US and Sahegal reluctantly includes him in the board of the company. Nisha and Ritesh had affair before Ritesh had left India.

Sehgal further gets frustrated by losing Best Industrialist Award to Marwa. During that Nisha receives secret information from an employee of Marwa Group about the new soft drink launch. She successfully gets the all information about the new product of Marwa by alluring an executive of the opposite camp.

Sahegal in order to beat the rival launches the soft drink early in the market. Unfortunately, Food and Drug Department finds high quantity of pesticide in the new product. The officials were bribed to keep quite, and it was decided to launch the product anyhow, with pesticide. For this decision one of the top executive leaves the company, who is against the decision. Nisha and Ritesh were persuaded, that soon the solution would be found, and it was not good to postpone the launch, when the public issue  of shares of the company was coming out.

The product was launched and successfully covers the market. Ritesh was made CEO of the company, and by this decision a second in command of the company feels cheated and reveals the secret of the pesticide to Marwa. Marwa using his political connection harass and humiliate Sahegal. Eventually, when everything becomes clear that there is no escape, except if someone comes forward and take all the responsibility of the scam, the Sahegal group would be in total mess. Vinay Sahegal and his wife request Ritesh to convince Nishi to take blame and the promised that she would be freed soon. Nishi agrees to take blame and surrender before the police and was put behind the bars.

But the pressure does not cease off, finally the foreign investor company, threatens Finance Minister to withdraw all the investment if there is no end of the political and business rivalry. An compromise is arrived between Marwa and Sahegal, however the ministers refuse to settle the case of Nishi before the election is over, which means many months in the custody for Nishi. Ritesh finds out the compromise scheme, and also that Nishi is pregnant with his child. He demands from Sahegal to get free Nishi within two days otherwise he would tell everything to the media. Next day Ritesh is found dead and Nishi is completely broken down.

Movie ends with Saehgal who is happy with his successful soft drink product and Nishi who is bailed out but still facing the food case.

Madhur has arrived at front page from ’page 3′. After reveling the glittering glamor world, he has tried his hand on business and politics.

Like his previous movie, Mahdur has revealed the dark and ugly secrets of the corporate world. Where money hungry businessman join hand with power hungry politician. Infact , in India this is open secret about the hand to hand partnership of business mand and politician. What the movie focus about the ruthlessness of the corporate world, where human life seems no value. Relations are measured on their return value like any investment.

Movie has good grip and all actors performs their part well. Every character has been given required footage, even two gossiping peons in the movies appear to be the part of the movie. A must watch for everyone.

What I expect from now from the director to do same with main stream media and journalism.journalism.

Jab Jab Bahar Aayee by Mohd. Rafi/Lata Mangeshkar & Mahendra Kapoor

Posted by JV on June 21, 2006

Movie : Taqdeer (1967)
Singer/s: Mohd.Rafi / Lata Mangeshkar & Mahendra Kapoor
Lyrics : Anand Bakshi
Music : Lamixkant - Pyarelal

When do you remember someone?

***
Jab jab bahar aaye aur phool muskaraye mujhe tum yaad aaye,
jab jab bhi chand nikla aur tare jagmagaaye mujhe tum yaad aaye.

Apna koi tarana maine nahin banaaya, tumne mere labon pe har ek sur sajayaa
jab jab mere taraane duniyane gungunaaye mujhe tum yaad aaye.

Mumkin hai zindagaani kar jaaye bewafaai lekin yeh pyar woh hai jismein nahin judaai,
is pyar ke fasaane jab jab zuban pe aaye mujhe tum yaad aaye
***
