About me

I am JV from India. I read a lot and get confused equally…. I am lazy and consistently inconsistent….. I believe in logic….. I love beautiful things and beautiful people….. I love blogging, I tweak my blog more than writing anything:)…. I love free softwares…

I am Gemini and Dragon (1976 Born).

I love……

Reading - I read almost anything fiction, non-fiction, spiritual, research papers, articles, wikipedia, blogs, . Nowadays I have been reading spiritual subjects (no I am not that much old) I have been reading OSHO for quite some time and recently after going through the basic course of Art of Living I am reading Sri Sri Ravishankar, (Jan’07)….and also reading J. Krishnamurti and Bertrand Russel. Visit my book shelves at Shelfari.com

Internet - I like all the aspects of Internet ;) It is the biggest time killer for me. Internet amaze me a lot ,it has become my number one passtime but reading is still my first love. Blogging keeps me occupied for most of time on internet and allows me to express everything, many things which I cannot express in my off-line world. Much kudos to blogging.

Photography - I like photography but for last 4-5 years the feeling towards it is not intense as it used to be, because I do not get sufficient time and opprtunity to shoot anything interesting. I am planning to buy camera in near future. But digital camera still does not appeal to much. I prefer the traditional camera over the digital camera. Next camera may be a second hand Nikon F10…. (Mar’07)…..Instead of SLR I have purchased cameraphone Sony Ericsson K790i it has 3.1 mega pixel quality camera. You can visit my photos at flickr or at my photoblog at aminus3.com. I have bought Fujifilm Finepix s8000fd in December’07.

Trekking - It goes along with the photography so this hobby is not more active than photography. I have trekked in Himachal Pradesh and Utter Pradesh with Youth Hostel Association of India. For last 4-5 years I have not been to any trek. In every summer I make plans for it but something always there to obstruct me. Last trek was in May’05 at Yamnotri, Uttranchal.

Computer Games - Well this is another enjoyment I prefer. I am having PC since 1996 and I have been a PC Games freak. I have almost 100+ titles of games. I like simulation games. Civlisation by Sid Mier, Caesar III, Command and Conquer, SIMS are some of my all time favorite. I also enjoy First Person Shooters but only when I am in such violent mood, otherwise I like to think a lot. I am playing Rail Road Tycoon presently(2006). I have stopped playing PC games some time back.

Music - I do not consider myself as a great music lover, but as an ordinary Indian I am fond of Hindi Movie songs and Ghazals and thanks to MP3 and WinAmp I enjoy good music at office, home and in car.

Yoga / Meditation - Well, this is the latest hobby I am pursuing. After reading OSHO about meditation and breathing technique I was considering to do something about it. Then someone suggested to joining basic course of Art Of Living. I have completed the course and now doing Sudarshan Kriya daily. It makes a difference.

  4. JV Says:

Thanks for your compliments. Your blog is doing better, it will soon outgrow mine’s.

Blogging is personal thing to me. My pass-time, my playground. I consider a personal blog is just like one’s private room, where friends come and go and share whatever they feel like.

Blog generally refelcts my moods. I write on anything at my whims. And what is most I like to comments on other’s post than writing my own. :)

  25. grownANDsexy Says:

I didn’t know where else to ask this on your website so here it goes:
How do you find out the worth of a stock bought almost 40 years ago? Do you ask the company how much its worth or some other source?

Also, is there a way stock you bought (as an employee) can end up being taken away from you OR because the company wants to use a new way of doing their stock, can it become worthless if you don’t want to change your stock?

Thanks in advance… and this is a great site. I’m just getting into investing myself. Its nice to know that there are others out there too.

  26. JV Says:

of course, electronic records do not go recording the prices of a stock before 40 years. However, you can approach the company itself, which certainly keeps record of the price movement of its stock. You can inquire from the stock exchange where the stock is/was listed.

To your second query I am not bit clear about it. As far as I know, the shares given to employee under schemes, are against the salary/bonus or other cash incentives. So, unless the employee breaches the agreement with the employer, there is no reason to take away the shares. Unless there is new scheme, under which you have to return the shares, however you can keep the shares if such option is offered.

I was confused about your second query because , you say you have purchased (as an employee), weather you have purchased from the open market or obtained against your salary etc under any scheme. If it is purchased from the open market , it cant be taken away.

  30. Gita Muralidharan Says:

    Hi JV,

Have just got to know of your blog. Good site for learning about new investments.

Some curiosity about Reliance Petroleum - where will the Jamnagar refinery output be sold? If US, how will recession affect it? Do you think they will sell themselves or through Chevron?

  31. JV Says:

@Gita, thanks, its my personal blog and I sometime talk about investment and by no means I am expert and I give views as an ordinarily informed investor.

RPL is a refinery, a process plant , and would receive crude from crude owners like Chevron and RIL and return the refined products and will earn from the job work of refining. So, principally RPL is not concerned with selling of petroleum, just processing.

Honestly, I do not know how will US recession will affect. The recession may have short term negative effect but in long term , when the economic cycle reverse , it will be very profitable.

Chevron is door for RIL to step into global market of petro products.
