  1. Sigma Says:

Ah! so I am tagged - again!! [That reminds me, you havent done my tag yet ;-)]
But I’ll try to do it as soon as possible - it is indeed interesting!
One question [ completely hypothetical ;-)] - what if the book I am reading does not have 123 pages ? :-D

This is a very interesting paragraph [the one on love] that you have shown here. Interesting thought it is. But it describes what is NOT love, and not what IS love. Any comments ?

Re your comment on my blog: I like to take a lot of photographs [obviously nice ones :-)] - in that way I am interested in photography, but I am not even an amateur in terms of technical knowhow. I do have more photograhs - check out my travel blog [www.shalinistravelogue.blogspot.com]

  2. JV Says:

Sigma, I am really sorry for that because your tagging made me thingking , as I couldn’t dream up any dreams, believe me ,that tagging is due on me and I will do, as soon I start dreaming :)

Well ‘love’ is kind of difficult to describe. And the comment about love is from the chapter called “Hate”. Hate is negative, if hate is absent love is always there.

I am checking out the photographs.

  3. Khushi Says:

    Absence of darkness is Light
    Absence of Cold is Warm
    Absence of Hate is Love

But are they exact opposites ??? or do they tag along….It is like they are two sides of a coin….

Right below a burning Candle is a shadow which is pitch dark.
Rub cold hands together and there comes the warmth
And you love someone so much and so truly, that you hate the idea of losing him….

    Then are they opposites ???

  4. Nita Says:

I am not very tech savvy so I am not sure what tagged means.

  5. JV Says:

@Nita, you are called upon to publish the 5th/last paragraph of page no.123 of the book presently you are reading.

  6. JV Says:

@Sigma, I did not notice your hypothetical question, in that case the last page of the book.

  7. JV Says:

    @ Khushi,

Absence of light is darkness. Darkness has not existence of its own.

I believe hate is not abstract, it is related/associated with one thing or another.

It is hard to say if love and hate are opposite. We consider the emotions of love and hate as subjective, we form love and hate as per our conditioning of mind. contd…..

  8. Excerpt on the Wiki from The World is Flat « My Writings - A wide angle view of India Says:

[...] Well, JV tagged me and at first I was quite clueless as to what that meant. I found out that it means I have to publish the last or fifth paragraph of the book I am reading. The last para by itself wasn’t making much sense so I started from somewhere above: This is a highly personal story about Internet character assasination. It could be your story. [...]

  9. Sigma Says:

    From Khushi’s comments:
    Absence of darkness is Light
    Absence of Cold is Warm
    Absence of Hate is Love

Is this really true ? Are these opposites actually exact opposites ?
Absence of light may be darkness, but is absence of darkness light? As you said - darkness has no existence of its own.
Absence of cold is warm - Again, would the opposite not be more true ?
And it is the third point I must differ most with - Absence of hate cannot be considered as love, and absence of love cannot be considered as hate - mere absence would be simple, plain indifference. Though love and hate are treated antonyms, they both constitute “something”.

  10. JV Says:

In my comment I had said contd…. and so am I.

Next, hot and cold have their own existance. Either of them do not appear on account of absence of any of them. So from the view of physics this may be true, but I wonder if Khusi was referring in this context. Her view of point is probably emotional one.

The most significant thing in the human world, is love and hate. Are they opposite? It seems so. Now if we have to consider , if absence of hate is love or not?

Now, then again , what is love? Is it what we understand as earthly love, I mean , love between opposite genders, between freinds, relatives. Do we have restricted meaning of love which is among humans only? Can love go beyond human, beyond animal, beyond living thins?

Generally we refer love in context to persons, things, circumstances whcich we find pleasent, positive, attached, attracted to, where we want to be, with whom we want to be..

And such emotions , I believe, are conditional. We love as per our condtions , our prejuices and bias, we have settled in our mind.

If someone is asked which is more beautiful, rose or throne? admittedly, answer would be rose. Why? because we have condition in our mind that rose is beautiful because of its vibrant colors and aroma, throne is not because it hurts if we are not careful. But in reality rose and throne both have equal essence, both are living thing.

    Thanks Sigma for participation..
    Contd…. :)

  11. Cuckoo Says:

Well said JV. I too don’t fully agree with Khushi.

  12. JV Says:

@Cuckoo, it is not matter of agreement or disagreement it is matter of enjoyment :)

  13. Sigma Says:

    I agree with JV :-))
It is a matter of enjoyment - I love “healthy discussions”! Lol!!

And I have done your tag!!

  14. glandheim Says:

Wow! It’s been a long time since I’ve read that book. I just checked my bookshelfs and it’s there, but it’s the first series.

Reading Krishnamurti set me on the first step of a long road. I got to Krishnamurti by reading Aldous Huxley. I read practically everything he wrote, and when I discovered that his book “Island,” drew many of its ideas from conversations with Krishnamurti, who was apparently a close friend, I said, “I’ve gotta read this Krishnamurti guy.”

So Huxley, a great rationalist, led me to Krishnamurti, a “mystic.” I loved his writing but it drove me nuts for years. It was so simple and made so much sense, but it was too simple, too sensible. There had to be a deeper, underlying truth. So I dug and dug and dug and dug. Twenty-some-odd years later I had a lightbulb moment. What I thought to be impenetrable mysteries turned out to be just simple, straightforward advice.

    Who’d a thunk it?

  15. JV Says:

For quite some time I did not try to read J. Krishnamurti, as I thought it would too heavy reading or too philosophical. But when I started reading, it is unbelievably simple yet deeply profound. Each chapter is very concise.

    Thanks for dropping by.

  20. Dilip Says:

Hi JV , Thanks for tagging me . Sorry I am late but will put that paragraph on blog soon. I am reading an interesting book :).

  21. JV Says:

Never mind , take your time, and share what you are reading :)

  22. bendtherulz Says:

Thanks so much for thinking of me while tagging and yeah atleast this doesnot look like a trap…Will pick up this weekend.

I liked the book you are reading , will pick that soon. And yeah I liked the para ( very interesting take on love - and I think when people say that Love is blind they are not far behind. Once I was reading this book on sufism - and the love which they talked about it just took off on such higher level where thoughts was considered to be clutter. Love is just love - All consuming entity !!
    ( Scary ehen… ;)

  23. JV Says:

Love is just love, never scary, unless one has misconceptions, it is the talk/discussion and dogmas about love which are scary.

  24. rashmi Says:

Extreamly sorry for not being prompt with the tag, hope to do that soon. thanks for stopping by :)
